  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Coarse salt for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add warm water and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each into a long rope.
  7. Shape each rope into a pretzel shape.
  8. In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil.
  9. Dip each pretzel into the boiling water for about 30 seconds.
  10. Place the pretzels on a baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
