  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the pumpkin puree, egg, and vanilla extract.
  5. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently. Shape into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into wedges.
  8. Place scones onto a baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a sweeter scone, increase the brown sugar to 3/4 cup.
  • These scones can also be glazed with a simple icing made of powdered sugar and milk.
