  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla, mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients and milk, mixing until just combined.
  6. Drop tablespoons of dough onto baking sheets and flatten slightly.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are golden.
  8. For the icing, mix powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and boiling water until smooth.
  9. Frost half of each cookie with chocolate icing and leave the other half white.

Notes

  • Allow cookies to cool completely before icing.
  • Experiment with different flavors by adding almond extract.
